On October 21st, Colonia’s Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team defeats South Plainfield 2-1, and comes up on top once again on home field.
This wasn’t the first time these two rivals played against each other. The first game between these two teams resulted in a tie game. The second time they faced each other it resulted in Colonia winning.
Some stats from the Colonia side is the team as a whole has scored 30 goals and 16 assists. Leading scorer for Colonia, is Amanda Poulakowski with a whopping 8 goals. Second, is Jasmine Mincer with 7 goals. Stephanie Piccininni is in third with 6 goals. For assists there is a 3 way tie with 3 assists between players, Amanda Poulakowski, Stephanie Piccininni, and last but not least Gianna Sortizza. Kelly Silva, Colonia’s goalkeeper has a total of 117 saves.
Some Stats from South Plainfield’s side is their record of 3-11-2. South Plainfield offensively as a whole has scored 17 goals and 11 assists. Leading scorer for SPF is Claire Nagel who has 7 goals. There is a tie for second between Andrea Avelar and Kaitlyn Gray with three goals each. Also there is a 3 way tie for most assists including Claire Nagel, Andrea Avelar and Kaitlyn Gray. Lastly South Plainfield’s goalkeeper Brianna Slover has 138 saves.
Looking at the stats, Colonia has a better shot at winning because Colonia has scored many more goals than South Plainfield and have even lost to them once before.
As the referee blew the whistle, Colonia got the ball first and drove it up the field. In the first 20 minutes Colonia was all offense and South Plainfield was all defense. Colonia kept connecting passes but the Tiger’s defense was solid. The Tigers didn’t let the ball pass the goalies box, but the Tigers defense slowly got weaker as the game progressed
At the 29th minute, Colonia had a corner kick and did a short pass. Then Colonia crossed it to Amanda Poulakowski and scored. Colonia’s crowd went crazy. The score was 1-0.
As the end of the half came, Colonia continued to attack and the Tigers continued to defend. At the end of the half the score was 1-0 in Colonia’s favor.
As the second half began, the Tigers started to become open minded and began their attack. They connected passes up field and broke through the defense, but Colonia’s solid goalkeeper Kelly Silva was making a lot of saves. She had a total of 9 saves. As the 60th minute approached Claire Nagel from SPF, who is leading in goals, drove up and shot the ball from the 20 yard line leading to a score. She evened out the score to 1-1.
As the final 10 minutes came, both teams attempted to score a goal. During the final 7 minutes, Colonia’s leading goal scorer Poulakowski, drove up the field and shot from the 15 yard line. She curved it in and scored. The score was made 2-1. Colonia then stalled until time ran out. CHS won the game 2-1.
As expected Colonia outscored the Tigers; Poulakowski’s 2 goals brought her total to 10 goals for the season and Kelly Silva to 125 saves on the season. On the Tigers side, Nagel brought her total to 8 goals but unfortunately the Tigers got knocked out being that this was single-elimination in the GMCs.
